This weekend while Mark and Rachel were looking for housing options in N. Texas near their new jobs, B and I had a small birthday party for his 4th Birthday with a few of his friends. :) B and I will soon be house hunting too, for our July move to Colorado.

B loved the visits and birthday gifts, and continues to play with them non-stop every chance he gets!

Fun with paint :) Thanks Anabelle

Tonight B and I read Beauty and the Beast. In this version the beast is hurt and a unicorn comes to heal him. As B was falling asleep he asked who I would call if he died (death seems to be a recurring question for him.) So I said I would call God. B asked why I wouldn’t call the unicorn to bring him back to life… I had to laugh, then I promised him I would call everybody I could to bring him back. He then said, “But mom, I’ll try not to die.” I told him that would be great, and how much I loved being his mom.

In the past he was worried about what would happen if Mark and I died. He asked this more than a year ago out of the blue. At first I answered realistically, but when the questions persisted, I consulted a councilor and began telling B we would always be there for him and he had nothing to worry about, ever.

He is getting better at problem solving, and asks about many things from multiple angles. I am enjoying watching him process everything, even if I don’t always know what to say.

Catching up

From Colorado to California, via Pennsylvania? What other adventures await us this year? :) Mark is negotiating a job in TX, while I continue job searching in CO. B is loving the snow, and sledding as much as possible.

The following is a mix of photos from the last 6+ weeks…

Brendon has had Christmas with Mark (on the 24th, a cozy few days at home with me, and there are more surprises yet to come as we travel to visit family. (Hopefully Mark will upload a few of the pictures I helped them take, but in the mean time I have a few to share as well.

B and I have watched a few stories this season including one about a young reindeer who was learning how to fly. His father (a member of Santa’s sleigh team) teaches him that he must have a happy heart to achieve “Santa speed” during flight. Tonight as B was falling asleep he said: “Mommy, can I go Santa speed?” I laughed and told him yes, as long as he keeps a happy heart.

Christmas eve, our friends Sushma, Giridhar, and Mahee came to visit for dinner. They boys opened a few small gifts, which they seemed to enjoy.

B and Mahee enjoy running and jumping together so much, they both end up happy and exhausted, it’s awesome!

We really appreciate all the love and support from our family and friends!!!!

So cute!

So cute!

B has been asking many questions:

” Mommy, does christmas man know if I am good every day?”

“How big is God?” “Where does God live?”

“I want you always!”

He also loves reversing roles. If he is whining for me to pick him up when we are walking to or from the car, and my arms are full of our bags… I mimic it and say I want someone to carry me too, cause I am also tired. He giggles.

Tonight we were talking as I put him to bed. He said: You stay here and go to sleep, I will go to work. I asked if I could help and pleaded that I wasn’t tired yet. He smiled then said sternly: no you stay in bed. Good night. We giggled and he continue his line of general questioning as a way to prolong bedtime. (I balance between wanting him to sleep, and enjoying our inquisitive conversations.)

Last week, I was exhausted one night and told him I was leaving his room so that I could go to sleep too. He said: No Mommy, you have to work. (From the mouths of babes…)

News: I have informed my department that I am job hunting in CO, and intend to move back this summer even if I am not done with the dissertation (though I continue to be dedicated to completing my program). This was a difficult choice for me, but ultimately helps me take the best care of B. (If you are a close friend / family and want more details, I am happy to answer your questions.)

Mark is job hunting across the country, and he will follow the best job fit he can find.

I did have a few pictures Mark shared with me of him and B sledding, but my hard drive crashed and I have not recovered them yet.
